Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia is a city in southeastern Ukraine, known as an industrial and cultural hub. It is situated on the banks of the Dnieper River and is the administrative center of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast (region). The city has significant historical importance, particularly during the period of the Cossacks. It is also home to the historic Zaporizhian Sich, a stronghold of the Cossack community. In addition to its rich history, Zaporizhzhia is known for its energy production, including the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is one of the largest nuclear power stations in Europe. The name “Zaporizhzhia” itself is derived from the Ukrainian language, meaning “beyond the rapids,” referencing its geographical location near the rapids of the Dnieper River.
